I have a 10-year-old son who will be 11 in a couple weeks. His name is Xavion Quito. Tragically, his mother, Leonora Sydnor, was diagnosed with stage-four gastric stomach cancer. After over a year of fighting her cancer, we lost her on Dec. 6.
To show his appreciation of all the support he has received since his mother's passing, he wanted me to write this letter to the editor to acknowledge everyone.
My son was very hurt and confused with the holiday and his birthday around the corner, he was sure it would never be the same. Within the first week of his mother's passing, he received so much support from the community, his school - Winthrop Elementary in New London - was instantly so supportive, they even gathered cash together and gave my son a gift card and offered any assistance. Galaxy Roller Rink in Groton donated a gift card to the rink and a gift card to local store. Nissan of Norwich and other dealerships from the Antonino Auto Group came together and were able to collect cash and gave to him. Random friends, family and people came to my job with gifts, toys, bikes, games clothing, etc..
My son and I are so grateful to have everyone's support and love.
