Selectmen Approve a Series of Appointments

Towns such as Madison benefit from scores of residents who volunteer their time and talents to serve on a wide range of boards, committees, and commissions. Recently, the Board of Selectmen approved the following appointments and reappointments.

The selectmen appointed three persons to the newly-created Veterans' Advisory Joint Committee. They are Mary Molitor and Ted Aub, for terms to expire in January 2018, and Helen Kieser-Pedersen for a term to expire in 2016. They will join three members from Guilford, and the committee will advise veterans on benefits and services available to them.

Customarily, the selectmen accept the recommendations of the political parties when filling seats on appointed boards. They approved the following recommendations from the Democratic Town Committee:

Reappointments: Giovanni Meier to the Committee for Land Acquisition Strategy; Christine Bouchard, Heather Crawford, and George McManus to the Conservation Commission; Michael Skonieczny to the Economic Development Commission; Jeff Rosenberg to the Employee Retirement Board, Firemen's Benefit Committee, and Police Retirement Board; William Leonard to the Flood & Erosion Control Board; and Glenn Falk to the Inland Wetlands Commission.

Also, Melanie Clark to the Job Evaluation Committee, Francine Larson to the Planning & Zoning Commission, Andrea Hopkins and Lori Lodge to the Rockland Preserve Committee, Pat Melady to the Senior Services Commission, and Maggie Cohn to the Youth & Family Services Board. For these reappointments, all terms expire Jan. 1, 2018. Thomas Boyle was reappointed to the Historic Commission for a five year term to 2019.

Appointments included James Monahan to the Water Pollution Control Authority to fill a vacancy for a term to expire January 2016, Amanda Kaplan to the Youth & Family Services Board to fill a vacancy for a term to expire in January 2017, Amanda Kaplan also to the Planning & Zoning Commission as an alternate to fill a vacancy for a term to expire January 2018, Anne Judd to the Bauer Park Advisory Committee to fill a vacancy for a term to expire January 2018, and Gunnar Johnson to the Town Landscape Committee for a term to expire January 2018.

At the same meeting the selectmen approved the following recommendations from the Republican Town Committee:

Reappointments included Holly Johnson, John Paulson, and Ted Rahmann to the Bauer Park Advisory Committee; Mitch Cohan to the Building Code of Appeals; Wanda Pellegrino to the Committee for Land Acquisition Strategy; Clyde Burkhardt to the Conservation Commission; Edward Pellegrino, Eric Perrelli, and Chris Weiler to the Economic Development Commission; and Bob Newman to the Firemen's Benefit Committee.

Also, William Gashlin to the Flood & Erosion Control Board; Peter Horton to the Historic Commission as an alternate member; John Mathieu and David Newton to the Inland Wetlands Commission; Vince Dussich and Peter Thomas to the Job Evaluation Committee; Craig Bernard and Ronald Clark to the Planning & Zoning Commission; Thomas Cartledge, Edward Dowling, and Eric Thornburg to the Board of Police Commissioners; and Robert Newman to the Police Retirement Board. All terms will expire January 2018.

Also, Benson Werthan to the Building Code of Appeals and Ron Hick to the Madison Town Energy and Efficiency Committee, both with terms to expire January 2017.
