As the owner of the local independent bookstore in downtown Mystic, I am dismayed that Day Staff Writer Lee Howard didn't do his homework in his article, "A life lesson: Stand up against bullies," (Jan. 6), to inquire whether we carry Kevin McMahon's book "Manny McMoose and his Chubby Caboose." Instead, he only lists Amazon as a seller of the book. Some people prefer not to shop at the big behemoth and want to support their community by shopping locally.
We do carry this book which is self-published, meaning we give the author 60 percent and we take 40 percent. In the future, it would behoove the writers at The Day paper, also locally owned and independent, to give a local options for shopping and support the communities which it serves.
