Old Lyme - Approving the town's yearly report, accepting a donated land parcel and recognizing the citizen of the year are on the annual town meeting's agenda for Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

The Board of Directors of the Old Lyme Community Development Corp. is donating a parcel of land on Pond Road to the town. Accepting the donation will make the land, now part of the municipal parking lot in the Sound View Beach area, officially town-owned, said First Selectwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder.

The town parking lot at Sound View consists of two land parcels with a mutual border. The town owns one parcel. Years ago, the community development group had designated the other parcel for the town to use to benefit the community, she explained.

Town officials are planning improvements for the beach area that residents will vote on at a future meeting. Those plans call for a picnic area, bathroom facilities and a bike lane along Hartford Avenue and down Route 156 to the Raymond E. Baldwin Bridge.

As part of the overall project, the town installed new diagonal, kiosk-meter street parking on the southbound side of Hartford Avenue last summer.

The Department of Transportation has approved $135,000 for the project's cost, of which a federal grant will cover 80 percent. The town is finalizing the architectural fees for the project, the selectmen said at their meeting last week.

At the Jan. 27 meeting, residents will also receive a copy of the town's Fiscal Year 2013 annual report. In addition, the selectmen will recognize the town's 2013 "Citizen of the Year." The 2012 award went to Robert Pierson for his community service and seven years as president of the town's fire department.
