Norwich — The Peter Gallon American Legion Post 104 in Taftville will conduct a Four Chaplains ceremony at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 2.
The ceremony honors the actions of four Army chaplains who were aboard the transport ship Dorchester when it was torpedoed and sank in 1943 by the German submarine U-223. Members of the local clergy, each representing the faith of one of the original chaplains, will deliver the benediction.
Rabbi Julius Rabinowitz, of Beth Jacob Synagogue in Norwich, is the keynote speaker. The post is at 22 Merchants Ave. Hors d’oeuvres, prepared by the Sons of the American Legion Detachment Squad 104, will be served at the end of the ceremony. The event will be held regardless of weather.
