Local Roundup: Sawyer leads New London to victory

Willimantic - Collin Sawyer scored 26 points as the New London High School boys' basketball team beat Windham 79-56 Thursday night.

Nick Barner had 14 points and 12 rebounds and De'Vonta Robinson had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Whalers (7-1), who play Classical of Providence Saturday at the Community College of Rhode Island in Providence at 6 p.m.

In other games:

• Jacob Ballachino had 18 points, leading Old Lyme to a 46-40 win over Coginchaug in a Shoreline Conference game. Zac Abrahamsson scored 15 for Old Lyme (3-6).

• Ryan Pambuku had 21 points to lead Plainfield past Wheeler, 74-53. Jacob Raggon scored 28 for Wheeler (1-7).

Girls' basketball

• Margot Calmar scored 28 points and had 14 rebounds as Stonington beat Tourtellotte 60-41. Taty LaFrance-Boyce had 18 points and seven rebounds for Stonington (8-3).

Women's basketball

• Tara Gabelman made 8 of her 12 field goals and finished with a game-high 26 points and 15 rebounds to pace Conn College past Rivier, 84-73. Carlee Smith scored 21 for Conn (9-6) and Caitlin Cimino added 12 points and seven rebounds. Savanna Butterfield scored 18 for the Raiders (10-3).

• Caycee Williams had 16 points and 11 assists for Mitchell in its 55-39 win over Lesley in the New England Collegiate Conference. Kate Mulloy had 15 points and nine rebounds for Mitchell (7-7, 7-1), which held the Lynx to 21.5-percent shooting (14 of 65). Sarah Apgar had seven points, nine rebounds and four steals for Lesley (1-14, 1-7).

Men's basketball

• Joshua Ford scored 23 points and Parris Hill added 22 as Mitchell beat Elms 94-86 in a NECC game. Alex Del Rio had 14 points, Anthony Epps scored 12, Ford had 11 rebounds and five assists and Hill had 10 rebounds for Mitchell (10-3, 7-0).

• Joseph Groski had 10 points and 12 rebounds as Western Connecticut beat Conn College, 68-62. Tony Seldon had 15 points, five rebounds, three blocks and three steals for Western (9-4). Zuri Pavlin had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Camels (7-6) and Rob Harrigan had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

H.S. riflery

• Grasso Tech lost to Vinal Tech, 943-864. Mackenzie Foster led Grasso (0-2) with 187, including a perfect score in sitting. Other scorers for Grasso were Alex Zinz (178), Dino Broccoli (174), David Gauthier (164) and Zach Ivory (161).

H.S. hockey

• Fitch/East Lyme/Ledyard/Hale-Ray lost to Rocky Hill/RHAM/Middletown 5-2 Wednesday night at Conn College. Keegan Twomey and Tyler Hebert scored goals, Tyler Luke made 38 saves and Jarrett Hebert and Pete Yapchanyk had assists for the Eagles (1-9).
