    5 displaced by fire in Norwich

    Norwich -- Five residents have been displaced from a home at 53 Maple St. that was damaged by fire this morning.

    According to a press release from fire department Battalion Chief Gregory J. Despathy, firefighters responded to the 2 1/2 story home at 9:38 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the roof, attic and eaves.

    The firefighters found the fire on the second floor and in the attic and had it under control at 10:21 a.m. The five residents were found to have exited the home and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Norwich Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department FAST, Norwich Public Utilities, and the Norwich Building Department.
