Westerly -- Westerly Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department is offering a new 12-session Cardiac Risk Factor Reduction Program for adults of all ages and fitness levels.
The program includes risk factor identification as well as individualized exercise sessions created by exercise physiologists with blood pressure monitoring, and education on cardiac risk factors including cholesterol, stress management, and weight loss. The program is led by exercise physiologists Michaela Nardone and Julie Oakley, and registered nurse Judy Serra, who are certified in cardiopulmonary resussitation and advanced cardiac life support. Criteria to be eligible for the program include one of the following risk factors: high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, stress, family history of heart disease, sedentary lifestyle, and smoking. A physician referral is required. The program is not covered by insurance.
Benefits from the program may include reduced cholesterol and blood pressure, improved control of blood glucose and quality of sleep, weight loss, increased flexibility and reduced shortness of breath.
The cost for the program is $90 for 12, one-hour sessions ($7.50 per session). It will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 3:00 p.m. at the Morgan Medical Building, Suite 101, located at 45 Wells St.
