Local roundup: Montville's Strecker to attend Post

Montville - Montville High School's Nick Strecker, a four-year starter at forward, has made a verbal commitment to play men's soccer at Post University, a Division II school in Waterbury.

Strecker played in 86 games during his career, a school record, and never missed a game for the Indians, who went 69-16-1 and helped Montville win three Eastern Connecticut Conference divisional titles, an ECC tournament championship and a Class M state title in 2010. He finished his career with 34 goals and 18 assists and was a two-time member of The Day's all-area team as well as a team time all-state and All-ECC pick. He also played in the Senior Bowl all-star game last fall.

Post, a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, has won a pair of CACC titles, has advanced to the CACC tournament final the last three seasons and has been ranked among the top Division II teams in the nation for three straight seasons.

College honors

• Connecticut College senior Michael LeDuc was named to the honor roll in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Athlete of the Week program.

LeDuc won the 3,000 meters at the Tufts Invitational in a personal best 8:23.56, the top time among Division III competitors in the nation this year. Leduc was the organization's National Athlete of the Year in 2013 after winning the NCAA Division III cross country championship in November.

• Coast Guard Academy junior Christian Brindamour was named men's Co-Swimmer of the Week in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

Brindamour, who shared the honor with MIT's Bo Mattix, won the 50 freestyle (20.86 seconds) and 100 freestyle (48.02) during a loss to Merchant Marine and was also part of the Bears' winning 400 freestyle relay team and second-place 200 medley relay team.

Local postponements

• The entire local schedule, with the exception of the UConn men's basketball game against Temple in Hartford, was postponed due to Tuesday's winter storm.
