Public hearing on Groton school budget to be held Monday

Groton — The Board of Education will hold a public hearing Monday at the Senior Center to discuss the upcoming 2014-15 school budget.

Superintendent Michael H. Graner, who has been on the job a total of 18 days, said Friday he would not announce the total of the proposed budget before the meeting. He said he was going to work through the weekend tallying the numbers.

He said increases in contractual salaries and health insurance would undoubtedly impact the overall budget.

Graner said he anticipates a “level service budget,” meaning that he would like to maintain current services, staffing and programs, but does not foresee any additional services.

The current school budget is $73.6 million.

“I would very much like input from the public,” said Graner. “I would like to see how they would like the school system to move forward.”
