Fly away on the steam train

The Essex Steam Train will operate its annual Eagle Flyer eco-excursion on President's Day Weekend, Feb. 15 and 16. Riders and master wildlife conservationists from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection will depart for the 2-plus-hour trip from the Valley Railroad Company, One Railroad Ave., Essex.

Guests are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras to capture photos of local birds and wildlife.

Tours depart at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. from Essex but passengers may board at Deep River, Chester, Hadlyme and Haddam as space permits; tickets are cash only at these stops. Tickets also can be purchased online at www.essexsteamtrain.com/eagleflyer.html. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 2 to 11.
