John ‘Jack’ Coughlin, 85, Clinton

John “Jack” Coughlin, 85, of Clinton, husband of Nancy (Gilmore) Coughlin, passed away peacefully on Feb. 5. He was born in New Haven on Dec. 25, 1928, son of the late John J. Coughlin and Amanda (Piontek) Coughlin. He is also survived by five children, Margaret (Doug) Fisher, Paul Coughlin, Patrick (Barbara) Coughlin, Maureen Richards, and Glenn (Kari) Coughlin; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunt and uncle. Jack was predeceased by his sisters Mae Stonski and Jean Doyle; and son-in-law Tom Richards.

After graduating from James Hillhouse High in 1946, he joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably for two years. He was a senior foreman for 22 years at Armstrong Rubber Company in West Haven, and was employed at Clinton Paint and Decorating store for 10 years.

Jack was a hard worker and devoted family man who was endowed with a great Irish sense of humor.

A funeral Mass will be held for him on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 54 Grove Street, Clinton. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Estuary Council of Seniors, 220 Main Street, Old Saybrook, the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton, or Guilford VNA.
