Crazy stunts and fabulous dunks are on their way to Branford as the Harlem Wizards take on the Branford Dunkers on Saturday, Feb. 22 in the Branford High School (BHS) gym.
Tickets are on sale now for this community show-stopper of a game, organized by Walsh Intermediate School (WIS) PTA as a fundraiser. Branford district principals, teachers, and even Superintendent of Schools Hamlet Hernandez will suit up as the Branford Dunkers to take on the famed Harlem Wizards, an institution in trick round-ball.
"Even though this event is sponsored by our PTA, we envision it as a community event that the entire town can enjoy," said WIS PTA President Michael Oberempt.
The latest edition of the Wizards team is in the midst of a 2014 Slamtastic Tour, displaying the wizardry, trick hoops, and three-man alley-oops stunning fans since 1962. It's a show of amazing talent combined with on-the-court (and sometimes in-the-crowd) comedy and spontaneous, feel-good humor that's appropriate for fans of all ages. The Wizards also put on a tremendous interactive halftime show and are known to stick around postgame until every last autograph's been signed.
Game day is Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:45 p.m.) at BHS, 185 East Main Street. Advance tickets ($10 for students, $12 general admission) are on sale at Lenny's Indian Head Inn, 205 South Montowese Street, Branford, or online at www.harlemwizards.com (a $.99 additional charge per ticket applies). A limited number of $25 courtside seats (includes pre-game meet and greet with two Wizard members and a free player photo) are available. Day-of (at the door) tickets are $12 for students and $14 general admission. Find more ticket information at www.myvlink.org/walshpta.
