Groton — Town police arrested two men on numerous charges Saturday morning after they were tracked by a state police K-9 unit following an interrupted burglary at the carport unit of a home.
Andrew T. Maynard, 21, of 46 Crystal Ave., Apt. B54, New London, and Jacob W. Matzdorff, 19, of 48 Crystal Ave., Apt B31, New London, each was charged with conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools, disorderly conduct and interfering with an officer.
Matzdorff additionally was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.
Police said the resident of the house at an unidentified location discovered that his secured carport storage unit had been tampered with at 4:36 a.m. Saturday. The resident discovered two men inside the unit. The two men fled on foot and a neighbor called 911. Officers responded and set up a perimeter around the area. A state police K-9 unit conducted a dog tracking search that led to the suspects in a wooded area of Route 12. Groton Town Police arrested both suspects.
Each was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond and will be arraigned Monday in New London Superior Court.
