Mystic - The Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a special use permit needed to construct a West Marine store on Mystic Aquarium's overflow parking lot at the corner of Coogan Boulevard and Maritime Drive.

Last week, the commission also approved a related permit that will allow the aquarium to relocate the parking lot to another site it owns on Maritime Drive next to Pendleton Health and Rehabilitation.

Waterstone Retail plans to construct a 13,000-square-foot store that would replace the 8,000-square-foot store it operates in the nearby McQuade's Marketplace complex. It told the commission it plans to open the store on Memorial Day weekend.
