Alan J. MacGeachie Preston
After reading the article, "The Preston grand list increased by 2 percent from October 2012 to October 2013," (Feb. 14), it is my opinion the reason why Preston taxes have gone up are:
First, residents are forced to pay the nearly $1 million legal fees that First Selectman Robert Congdon wracked up, going one-on-one with unauthorized meetings between Joe Gentile, Utopia developer and attorneys Shipman and Goodwin. Gentile should have paid his share in the agreement.
Second, the $8 million loan Congdon/Sean Nugent insisted Preston residents approve, even after we first voted it down.
Third, having to make up lost taxes because you granted farmers long overdue tax relief.
Four, allowing plow trucks to break down and not buying enough road salt. Hope it isn't all being used at the hospital property.
Preston residents need to look at the facts. I believe Congdon is spending and paying more attention to the hospital property than he is on his first selectman, public works director and PRA responsibilities.
If Congdon cannot handle these responsibilities maybe he should step aside and let someone else do the job better.
