Stonington zoning request could get things popping

Published March 03. 2014 4:00AM

Mystic - The smell of freshly made popcorn may be on its way to Mystic River Park on Cottrell Street.

On Tuesday, the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider a zoning permit request from the Mystic Fire District, which owns the space at 12B Cottrell Street, to change the use from a photography studio to a retail restaurant which will be called The Mystic River Popcorn Co.

According to report prepared by Town Planner Keith Brynes, popcorn would be made on site to sell to customers in the park, which is next to the building.

No seats are proposed in the 353-square-foot space but up to eight could be added under zoning regulations.

The commission meets at 7 p.m. at Mystic Middle School.
