OLD SAYBROOK - Could you dedicate hours of your free time to help the Conservation Commission promote a community-based program called the Connecticut Solar Challenge (CTSC)? If so, the commission's Emily Grochowski wants to hear from you.

Needed are volunteers to be CTSC solar ambassadors whose role will be to promote and encourage town residents and businesses to cut energy usage by installing solar electric panels and solar hot water systems. Volunteers, once informed, would also be responsible for answering questions posed by residents and businesses that want to learn about their options and their costs.

The volunteers also would organize, with the help of town staff, two informational workshops for town residents and businesses about solar energy installations.

"CTSC would provide all program marketing materials and work with the liaison to determine and implement the best methods for dissemination of program information to the public and local community, civic, faith-based, etc., groups that can publicize the information to its members," said Grochowski.

To volunteer to help promote the CTSC in town, send a letter of interest with your qualifications to Grochowski at em.grocho@gmail.com.

CTSC is a program started by a shoreline solar company and that has spread out to several shoreline towns. The goal is to use community volunteers to help inform residents and businesses about solar energy options, as well as the installations costs and benefits. Solar electric systems (PV) qualify for rebates and tax credits. Solar water heating systems qualify for tax credits only. Visit http://connecticutsolarchallenge.com for more information.
