ShopRite issues voluntary recall of store-made ground meat
New London – ShopRite initiated a voluntary recall today of all store-made ground meat produced and sold between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Thursday.
There is a possibility that these products may contain small pieces of hard plastic, ShopRite said in a news release. All varieties of ground meat processed and sold in the store, at 351 North Frontage Road, are being recalled. No other meat products sold there are affected by this recall, the company said.
“We are advising customers who purchased any of these products at the ShopRite of New London to return them for an immediate refund or replacement,” ShopRite spokesperson Karen Meleta said. “Although this may not cause an immediate health risk if ingested, we wanted to alert the public so appropriate steps can be taken.”
No injuries related to the recall have been reported.
The company said that this is an isolated incident and affects only the ShopRite of New London. Customers are asked to check the labels of any ground meat products purchased from this store and return any affected products for a full refund or replacement. Pre-packed ground meat products and ground meat sold in other ShopRite stores in the area are not affected.
ShopRite said it has reached out to its ShopRite Price Plus Club customers who have purchased this product to alert them to the recall via phone or email. Customers are urged to keep their Price Plus Club information updated, so they can be contacted in case of such events. To update information, call (800) 746-7748 or visit ShopRite.com.
