Groton — Town police say they are working with other local law enforcement agencies to solve a recent rash of commercial burglaries.

The latest occurred early Monday at the Midway Pizza on Fort Hill Road in Groton. Police suspect the burglary occurred sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. when someone forced entry and stole an undetermined amount of cash.

Police departments from East Lyme, Stonington, Westerly and Hopkinton, R.I., have reported similar burglaries, according to Groton Police Lt. James Bee.

Burglaries have been reported at Charlie’s Place Restaurant and Yankee Clipper in East Lyme, Stonington Pizza and Seafood Etc. in Stonington, Ella’s in Westerly and the Pavilion in Hopkinton, R.I.

East Lyme Police Sgt. Wilfred Blanchette said both East Lyme burglaries occurred early Monday. Based on the number of burglaries, Blanchette said he suspects a group of individuals committed the crimes.

Bee said law enforcement agencies are working together and investigating several leads that may connect the burglaries.

Anyone with information regarding these burglaries, or who saw suspicious activity in the area of the aforementioned businesses is encouraged to call the Groton Town Police Department at (860) 441-6712.
