Lebanon — State police said they continue to investigate the discovery of the bodies of a man and woman Monday in a vehicle on Smith Road in Lebanon.

At 8:50 a.m., state police at Troop K in Colchester responded to a 911 call reporting a possible medical emergency on Smith Road near Route 207. The caller observed a car parked, engine running, with two occupants inside, according to a written statement from state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance.

Emergency medical personnel, firefighters and state police responded. Upon arrival, Vance said first responders found two people inside the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

The scene was secured and detectives from the state police Eastern District Major Crime Squad responded to conduct an untimely death investigation. Both people were identified by state police detectives but the identities are being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

The state Office of the Chief State’s Medical Examiner was slated to conduct postmortem examinations of the deceased to determine the manner and cause of death.
