Norwich – The snow is still on the ground in most places, but a group of Norwich volunteers already is thinking about July 4.
“It’s that time of year again,” July Fourth Fireworks Festival Committee organizer Michael Franklin started his message seeking volunteers and donors for the 2014 festival tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 4 at Norwich Harbor. The date needs to be confirmed with the fireworks company, but Franklin hopes Norwich has put in its request early enough for what will be a busy weekend for fireworks companies.
The festival committee is seeking volunteers to help coordinate several segments of the event and pre-event fundraisers. Help is needed in the following categories:
Silent Auction typically held the last week of May or first week of June. A volunteer is needed to reach out to local businesses for contributions to the auction and volunteers are needed to organize the event.
Soliciting nominations and selecting a recipient for this year’s Ron Aliano Memorial Service Award, including securing a guest speaker for the event.
Organizing and coordinating vendors for the fireworks festival at the Howard T. Brown Memorial Park for the evening of the event.
Outreach for funding contributions for the festival.
Organizing the Market Street parking garage rooftop event.
An organizational meeting will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at The Villas at River Heights, 19 Thermos Ave. off Laurel Hill Avenue, Norwich. For information, contact Franklin at (860) 460-8144 or email@example.com.
