Montville - Freshman Stephen Fletcher had a game-high 21 points as 14th-seeded St. Bernard School downed No. 19 Tourtellotte in overtime on Monday, 70-65, in a CIAC Class S first round boys' basketball game.
Paul Pepas scored 18 for St. Bernard (13-9) and Remy Bonser added 16 points.
The Saints will play at third-seeded Sacred Heart in Wednesday's second round. Sacred Heart is ranked fourth in the New Haven Register Top 10 and is the only team to beat city-rival Crosby, the Naugatuck Valley League champion.
Kaevon Safford scored 27 for the Tigers.
In other games:
• Old Lyme's season came to an end with a 79-65 loss to No. 10 Bloomfield in the first round of the Class S tournament. Bloomfield led by 25 at halftime, but the No. 23 Wildcats cut the lead to nine after three quarters and outscored Bloomfield in the second half.
"We played our best half of the season in the second half,'' said Old Lyme coach Kirk Kaczor. "That team (Bloomfield) was very good. I'm pleased with how the team played in the second half.''
Zach Abrahamsson scored a career-high 24 points for Old Lyme, making four of the team's nine 3-pointers. Drake Gavin had a career-high 17 points and Jacob Ballachino had 15 points for the Wildcats (10-12).
• Top-seeded Hartford Capital beat No. 32 Fitch 78-61 in the first round of the Class L tournament. Fitch finishes at 8-14.
Sun preseason schedule
• The Connecticut have announced their two-game preseason schedule. They host the New York Liberty on Sunday, May 4 at 1 p.m. On Thursday, May 8 the same two teams will play at Madison Square Garden, with a starting time of 11 a.m.
• Coast Guard lost to Baruch 11-5 in the Gene Cusic Classic at Fort Myers, Fla. Baruch (3-5) scored nine runs in the seventh inning, courtesy of eight walks. Freshman Luke Snaitkowski pitched well in his debu for Coast Guard, allowing four hits and one earned run over six innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. He left the game with a 3-2 lead.
Lukas Laplante had two triples, Blake Thompson doubled home a run, Matt Hanks had a pair of RBI singles and Cory Sonnega had a run-scoring single for Coast Guard (1-5).
