The reason the Noank School building is deemed beyond repair is that at some past time the powers that be decided not to maintain it, "Former Noank School might only be fit for a garden," (March 24). What a waste of a valuable resource. Any building can be brought up to standards if it is properly maintained. The town dropped the ball on this one, deciding instead that it wanted brand new schools built at the taxpayers' expense. As a long-time resident, I don't remember being asked if I wanted to pay taxes to have Noank School kept functional. I only remember being asked to pay for new buildings that still fell far short of the standards that were set for them.
