Region 4 Board Returns Funds

The Region 4 Board of Education, which oversees the district's two regional schools, John Winthrop Middle School and Valley Regional High School, recently received its finalized audit report for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. The report verified a budget surplus of $221,242 for that year. The board voted unanimously to accept the audit report as presented and then voted unanimously to return the end-of-year surplus to the towns.

The surplus was divided among the three towns based on student enrollments, which was the same method used to determine the towns' share of budget expenditures for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

Board Chair Chris Riley stated that the board's return of funds to the towns was a reflection of the board's and district's commitment to serving students well and efficiently.

The funds to be returned are:

• Chester-$60,023

• Deep River-$62,523

• Essex-$98,696
