Pfizer joins hunt for ‘patent trolls’

Published April 04. 2014 4:00AM

Pfizer Inc. is among several major U.S. companies that is lobbying against measures aimed at rooting out so-called patent trolls.

The lobbying group called Partnership for American Innovation includes Ford, Apple, IBM, Microsoft and General Electric. Its aim, according to a report by the Reuters news service, is to fight patent changes that could harm intellectual property protections already in place, especially for software or biotech inventions.

A bill supported by Google and Cisco that would clamp down on companies that buy up patents just to collect licensing fees or sue for infringement easily passed the U.S. House late last year.
