Leone makes his debut with Mariners

Norwich's Dominic Leone made his major league debut with the Seattle Mariners, pitching the seventh inning of Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics.

Leone, a 2009 Norwich Free Acdemy graduate, was taken by the Mariners in the 16th round of the 2012 draft out of Clemson. He was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma Friday and, since Thursday's Tacoma opener was postponed, never pitched in Triple-A. He split the 2013 season with Double-A and High-A after pitching in Low-A in 2012.

He surrendered a double to Eric Sogard of the A's - the first batter he faced - but didn't allow any other hits in a scoreless inning. He struck out Coco Crisp, got Josh Donaldson to ground out, walked Jed Lowrie and got Brandon Moss to pop out to third to end the inning.
