Database shows Medicare payments to local doctors

Published April 11. 2014 4:00AM

New London psychiatrist Dr. Bassam Awwa, Norwich oncologist Dr. Dennis Slater and Waterford oncologist Dr. Stephen Lattanzi are among more than 4,000 physicians nationwide who received more than $1 million in payments from Medicare in 2012, data released this week by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services shows. The amounts reflect payments made to the physicians and other health care providers, not profits.

A searchable list of local health care providers by name and procedure can be found on theday.com. Clicking on a health care provider's name will show information about all the procedures billed to Medicare in 2012, and the number of patients to whom service was provided. It will also show the total amount the provider received from Medicare for all procedures.
