The Waterford Speedbowl will hosts its annual Blastoff Weekend today and Sunday. The 13-race card was originally scheduled as the 64th season-opener on March 29-30, but fell victim to cold and inclement weather.
There will be qualifying and seven main feature events today and six more feature races on Sunday, highlighted by the 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series, a touring series which begins its 2014 season this weekend along with the Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA). The New England Truck Series will also be part of the card as well as the regular racing divisions in the Speedbowl's NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and Wild 'n Wacky Wednesday series.
The pit games open for race teams today at 7:30 a.m., with practice rouinds starting at 9 and spectator grandstands opening at 11:30. Qualyifying races will start at 2:30 p.m, including the VMRS drivers, and the first of today's seven features is scheduled to start at 5.
On Sunday, the annual Speedbowl Pit Party beings at 10 a.m. and gives fans an up-close look at the cars along with a chance to get autographs from drivers. Racing starts at noon with the 25-lap NEMA feature anchored by a special 64-lap SK Modified event and finishing with the 100-lap VMRS feature.
Admission for the weekend is $35 for adult grandstands and $10 for children ages 6-14 (kids 5-under are admitted free). Pit is pricing is $40 for licensed racing member and $50 for non-members.
