    Police raid smoke shops, arrest 2

    State and Norwich police raided two smoke shops Friday and arrested two men, seizing more than 3 pounds of synthetic marijuana and more than 300 smoking pipes.

    Following the 2 p.m. search-and-seizure of the Norwich and Jewett City shops, police charged Cody Rogers, 23, of 32 Spicer Road, and Joseph Fontaine, 21, of 329 River Road, Apt. 11, Lisbon, with possession of synthetic cannabinoids (K-2), possession of synthetic cannabinoids with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a drug factory.

    Norwich, state police and the Statewide Narcotic Task Force executed simultaneous search-and-seizure warrants Friday at Abbey Road, 460 N. Main St. in Norwich, and Abbey Road, 7E School St. in Jewett City. Both Rogers and Fontaine were arrested, and police seized more than $800 in cash, 3 pounds of synthetic marijuana or “K-2,” more than 300 smoking pipes and about 200 bags of synthetic marijuana valued at more than $4,000.

    Police said the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.

    Each man was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Monday in Norwich Superior Court.

    The public and all retail establishments are reminded that the possession and sale of synthetic cannabinoids is against the law and a felony.
