New London — City firefighters made quick work of a fire on the third floor of a multi-family residence at 47 Eastern Ave. on Thursday night.

The fire, which was called in at 10:47 p.m., was under control at 11:09 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Keith Nichols.

Nichols said the fire consumed some personal items and furniture, but was relatively minor in nature.

One person who lived on the third floor was displaced, he said. That person also suffered minor burns to his or her hand, but declined to be taken to the hospital, Nichols said.
The residents of floors one and two were allowed to re-enter the building after the fire was extinguished.

The fire marshal's office is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
