H.S. baseball roundup: Rios pitches Saints over NL 1-0

Norwich - Willie Rios pitched a complete-game, one-hitter with 16 strikeouts as the St. Bernard School baseball team blanked New London 1-0 at Dodd Stadium.

New London's only hit came in the third inning from Leo Clinton.

St. Bernard (4-1) scored in the sixth when Rios doubled, advanced to third base on a fielder's choice and came home on an error. Rios had two hits and Anthony Malchiodi one against New London pitcher Eddie Santiago, who also had a complete game and allowed only the three hits.

New London is 0-3.

In other games:

• Marc McGrath's two-out infield single in the top of the sixth inning scored Stan Kesilewski and gave Montville a 3-2 win over RHAM. Joseph Brachas pitched a five-hitter with an earned run and five strikeouts and had an RBI for Montville (4-0). Isaiah Mack added an RBI single. The Sachems are 0-4.

• Alden Schuman struck out 11 in five innings as Williams School beat Watkinson 8-2. Schuman (1-0) allowed two runs and was also 3-for-4 with an RBI. Noah Bavolack and J.J. Johnson had two hits each, Nick Smith had a two-run double and Dan Doherty singled home two runs for Williams (3-2).

• Will Butler pitched a three-hitter as East Lyme beat Woodstock Academy 5-0 in an ECC Large Division game. Logan Banker had a double for East Lyme (3-2, 2-0).

• Kevin Gencarelli doubled and pitched the distance as Westerly blanked Stonington, 4-0. Elisha Benoit had the only hit for the Bears (1-2).
