High school roundup: Kane pitches Bears past Lancers

Waterford - Theresa Kane pitched a two-hitter leading Stonington to a 4-2 win over Waterford in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division softball game Friday.

Kane (4-1) struck out 12 with seven walks and also had two hits. Christine McNeil's RBI triple in the first inning gave Stonington (4-1, 2-0) a 1-0 lead and the Bears added three runs in the top of the seventh. Brooke Arruda led off with a single and scored on Cameron Dreher's triple. Dreher scored on an error and Abby Blanchard later scored on a wild pitch.

Kazi Walker (1-1) took the loss, pitching a five-hitter with five strikeouts and three walks. Waterford (1-3, 1-1) scored twice in the fifth. Sarah Pacheco singled home Claire Hurley and Jodi Weiss scored on a passed ball.

Baseball

• Waterford scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and beat New London 5-1 inn ECC Medium Division game at Dodd Stadium. Sam Strout's bases-loaded infield single started the scoring, Tom Pezzolesi singled home Kevin Johnson and Jesse Coates and Strout and Pezzolesi both scored on passed balls.

Adam Goss was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and one run over 5 2-3 innings with four strikeouts and one walk. Pezzolesi had two hits for Waterford (4-0, 1-0). Eddie Santiago doubled home Damon LaFrance for New London (0-4, 0-1) in the fifth and teammate Beckett Scannelli had two hits.

• Freshman Dylan Wilkinson struck out five in five innings and only gave up a run for his first varsity win as he helped Wheeler to its first victory of the season, 14-3, over Grasso Tech. Chris Munzer went 2-for-2 with three walks, four runs and an RBI for the Lions (1-2). Mike Dellaporta added two hits, including a double, with two runs and an RBI and Evan Jones added two hits, two RBI and a run. Edgar Centeno went 3-for-4 and scored twice for Grasso (0-3).

Girls' tennis

• Norwich Tech lost to Hartford Classical 4-3 in a Constitution State Conference match Thursday. Lauren Viele won her singles matches and doubles teams of Emily Kivela-Phoebe Joyner and Heather Wilson-Hannah Holloway also won for Norwich Tech (1-1).
