Groton — The Avery Point campus of the University of Connecticut will host an Earth Day celebration from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today outside on the campus green, at 1084 Shennecossett Road.

More than 15 local, earth-friendly organizations and vendors will be present to share information about their environmental efforts and to provide access to their products.

Entertainment will be provided by Robert Burns of Aiki Farms of Ledyard, a musician, farmer, and martial artist. Groton Mayor Rita Schmidt will speak.

EcoHusky, which organized this annual event, is a student-led environmental club at the Avery Point campus. The EcoHusky club is encouraging lightly used shoe donations be brought for its shoe drive for the Salvation Army.
