East Lyme — High-school seniors will finish their school year a day earlier than other students in the district and graduate on Wednesday, June 18.
The Board of Education approved on Monday setting graduation for 5:30 p.m. on June 18 and exempting graduating seniors from attending school the next day. The last day of the school year will continue to be Thursday, June 19 – a half day – for all other students in the district.
The board had discussed earlier this month moving the last day of school to Friday, June 20, and setting graduation on that same day to coincide with a planned alcohol-free, post-graduation party for graduates. In the end, the parent party-planners were able to secure another venue to hold the safe celebration on June 18.
