Man to serve 7 years, register as sex offender for juvenile sex assault
A former resident of Gales Ferry pleaded guilty Wednesday in New London Superior Court to sexually assaulting a young girl he knew over a period of time in New London.
Shayne Buckley, 37, will be sentenced June 18 to seven years in prison followed by 10 years of strict probation for risk of injury to a minor. He will be required to register as a sex offender while on probation.
According to the state, relatives of the victim arrived at the 12-year-old victim's New London home on Aug. 24, 2013, to find Buckley and the girl performing a sexual act in the living room of the home. The girl told a family member that Buckley had been sexually assaulting her since she was 6.
Buckley admitted to sexually assaulting the girl but contends that the assaults began only eight months earlier. He has been held in lieu of $400,000 since his arrest.
