Rams’ Girls’ Tennis Beats Coginchaug for First Win

The Old Saybrook girls' tennis squad picked up its first win of the spring by besting Coginchaug 5-2 on April 14 and later earned a 7-0 win against East Hampton to stand at 2-2.

Winners for the Rams against Coginchaug were Rosie Rothman at No. 2 singles (6-2, 3-6, 6-4); Katie Costa at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-2); Avery Adams at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-3: the No. 1 doubles tandem of Myeerah Zhang and Mia Neas (6-1, 6-0); and the No. 3 team of Ashley Savino and Emily Sheehan (6-4, 4-6, 6-0).

Also competing were Amanda Lee at No. 1 singles and the No. 3 duo of Betsey Gometz and Lindsay Dower.

In the East Hampton match, the Huskies only lost six games in seven total matches. Costa won again to improve to 3-0, Rothman moved to 3-1, and Adams prevailed once again.

"We are looking for some stronger performances from our doubles team to round out our wins in singles," said Coach Ruthanne Rothman.
