Police are still searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a chase that began in Norwich shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday and ended on Denison Avenue in New London, where the car crashed into the front porch of a house.
Norwich police said they attempted to stop the car when the driver was suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The driver refused to stop, police said, and was pursued by Norwich and state police. New London police became involved when the car crashed into the porch of a house on Denison Avenue.
Ken Falconi, owner of the home at 65 Denison Ave., said the car drove across his front lawn, tearing up his garden and shrubs, before crashing into his front porch.
"The whole front yard is shot," he said today. "It's a mess."
He said numerous police cars converged on the scene, some with dogs. The driver jumped out of the car and ran away. Falconi said there may have been a passenger in the car who also ran away.
Falconi said he was home at the time but was not injured.
Norwich police said the incident is under investigation and no arrests had been made as of this afternoon.
