New London — Mitchell College announced Friday that The Drop-In Learning Center will be leasing the college’s Caretaker’s Cottage for public child care services and children’s programs beginning next month, according to a statement from the college.
The two-story stone house that originally served as a residence for the Alfred Mitchell Woods Park caretaker will now be home to a new educational facility supporting Drop-in-Learning Center’s Day Care Center for children ages 15 months to 5 years of age and after-school enrichment programs for children up to age 12, according to a statement.
The space was most recently utilized for the Mitchell College Children’s Learning Center, a private preschool facility operated by the college until June 2011.
“We were very pleased to find an established and respected community organization such as The Drop-In Learning Center that was interested in using this location for its children’s programs,” said College President Mary Ellen Jukoski in a statement.
“The College will be able to collaborate with the Center by offering our professors and student meaningful opportunities for early childhood internships, class projects and other studies in support of our education and human science degree programs,” she said.
“We were outgrowing our existing facilities and were pleased to find such a beautiful location for our children to receive care and get some healthy exercise too,” Drop-In Learning Center Executive Director Reona Dyess said in the statement.
