Groton — John F. Scott, a Mystic resident and member of Groton Representative Town Meeting, announced Friday he will seek the Republican party nomination to run against Democratic state Rep. Ted Moukawsher for the 40th House District seat.
“I’m seeing, just through my own business where I insure other small businesses, that it’s a struggle for people to own and maintain a small business,” said Scott, owner of Bailey Agencies Insurance Agency. “That really is the backbone of our economy and nothing is being done in Hartford about it.”
Scott, 44, a Gales Ferry native, graduated from Ledyard High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Franklin Pierce College in 1992 and earned a certified insurance counselor designation in 2001.
He has served on the Groton Town Council, several boards and commissions and is president of the Groton Rotary Club. Scott is also chairman of the RTM Economic Development Corporation Task Force, which is researching ways to create an independent economic development agency.
Scott announced his candidacy Friday at the U.S. Submarine Veterans WWII National Submarine Memorial East, according to a news release.
