North Stonington man charged with growing marijuana in home

A North Stonington man suspected of growing marijuana in his house turned himself in to state police Friday in Montville on an outstanding warrant.

Zebulon J. Caswell, 34, of 3 Stillman Road, North Stonington, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal sale of a controlled substance, illegal sale of a controlled substance by a non-drug-dependent person, possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of drugs.

State police said they also found Caswell to be in possession of amphetamines.

State police, the Eastern District Statewide Narcotics Unit and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration had been investigating Caswell for a year preceding his arrest, according to a state police press release.

The agencies executed a search warrant on the suspect’s residence in October, in which they seized 40 pounds of marijuana, several marijuana plants and equipment for growing marijuana, the release states. The seizure resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant for Caswell.

Caswell’s residence is the third “grow house” in North Stonington that the agencies have “taken down” since November 2012, according to the release.

Caswell was held at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in lieu of a $100,000 bond and was due Friday in New London Superior Court.
