Nineteen-year-old Ryan Adcock, who has had trouble finding a place to live since he was convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl, is now residing in a tent city in Willimantic.

“Nobody’s happy with it, but right now it’s his only option,” said his attorney, Bryan P. Fiengo.

Adcock was sentenced in January 2013 to five years of strict probation and 10 years on the state’s sex offender registry for fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He received a fully suspended prison sentence, but ended up in prison on a charge of violation of probation because he had nowhere to live. Convicted sex offenders are required to notify their probation officer and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection of their address. Adcock also violated the terms of his probation because he had pornography on his cell phone, according to prosecutor Theresa Anne Ferryman. She said his living situation is “less than ideal.”

Adcock, who is from the Norwich area, was staying at a seasonal shelter in Willimantic and since its closure has moved to a tent village where there are other sex offenders who can’t find housing, according to Fiengo. He is significantly restricted as to where he can be because of his status, his attorney said.

Judge Hillary B. Strackbein instructed Adcock to call his probation officer daily and to report once a week in prison until he finds a permanent home.
