Stonington names Luzzi boys' basketball coach

Stonington High School named John Luzzi of Westerly its new boys' basketball coach on Monday. Luzzi succeeds Chad Barclay, who coached the Bears for one season.

Luzzi was the coach at Clark Lane Middle School this past season. He was the junior varsity coach at Waterford High School under coach Greg Gwudz in 2012 when the Lancers won the Class M state title.

"Success often breeds success and we believe coach Luzzi can offer that experience to our boys," Stonington athletic director Bryan Morrone wrote in a press release. "Stonington is thrilled to have a coach with local roots, high school coaching experience and a winning pedigree. John grew up in Westerly, knows the area and has pre-existing relationships within the community, which will be important for rebuilding the program."

Morrone said Stonington graduate Jay Wosencroft will coach the junior varsity. Wosencroft has been the boys' coach at Mystic Middle School.
