One of the myriad great things about The Neville Brothers was how each sibling brings something stylistically different but integral to the seminal New Orleans band.
Art Neville is "Papa Funk," whose organ groove is the propulsive force. Vocalist/percussionist Cyril Neville adds elements of reggae, rock and hip-hop. Vocalist Aaron Neville is the gorgeous-throated soul/gospel crooner. And Grammy-winning saxophonist Charles Neville, who appears at 8 p.m. tonight at the Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas along with local blues giant Jeff Pitchell and Texas Flood, is a renowned jazz musician - as fluent at post-bop standards as he is R&B.
Neville and Pitchell have been working together in the studio on a CD called, intriguingly enough, "Mardi Gras! A Taste of New Orleans and the Blues/Rock/Pop."
Expect tasty samples of the upcoming album, along with other surprises and interpretations. Opening the show will be EasyBaby.
Tickets are $35. Call (860) 536-4227.
