Norwich — A Norwich man led police early Thursday morning on a brief car chase that ended on Route 169 in Lisbon.
Reginald Payton, 24, of 681 North Main St., first floor, was charged with reckless driving, failure to use turn signal, engaging police in pursuit, second-degree reckless endangerment, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said that Officer Michael Krodel attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop in the area of Norwich area when the driver of the car, later identified as Payton, refused to stop and increased his speed.
State police assisted in the chase and stopped Payton on Route 169 in Lisbon. The incident happened around 1:04 a.m.
Payton is being held on a $250,000 bond, pending his arraignment today in Norwich Superior Court.
Payton has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for assault, threatening and interfering with police. He also has pending cases for drug and motor vehicle violations.
