Sun camp, Day 16: Sun waive Greene

    Howdy,

El Sol continued to pare down their roster Monday as they waived former UConn star Kalana Greene.

Greene started in 95 of the 101 games she played in over three seasons with the Sun. She averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 rebounds last season.

Connecticut acquired Greene from the New York Liberty during the 2011 WNBA Draft in exchange for its 16th overall pick, Sydney Colson. She was drafted 13th overall (second round) by New York in 2010.

Greene was one of the coolest people to ever grace the Sun. She will be missed.

The Sun must make one more cut this week to get their roster down to the 12-woman maximum allowed by the WNBA. Head coach Anne Donovan said at Saturday's practice that she plans on keeping seven perimeter players and five posts.

Connecticut has seven perimeter players under contract — Alex Bentley (guard), Katie Douglas (guard-forward), Kelly Faris (guard), Allison Hightower (guard), Danielle McCray (guard-forward), Renee Montgomery (guard), and Alyssa Thomas (forward).

The Sun have six posts under contract — Kelsey Bone (forward-center), Kelley Cain (center), Kelsey Griffin (forward), Yelena Leuchanka (center), Chiney Ogwumike (forward), Kayla Pedersen (forward).

    Vaya con dios....
