Stonington — Police are warning residents of scam phone calls in which callers state they are from the Internal Revenue Service and the resident owes the IRS money.

The caller then says that if the resident doesn’t send the money, they will be arrested.

Capt. Jerry Desmond said Tuesday the department knows of three such calls and is investigating the scam. Anyone with questions can call police at (860) 599-4411.
