Nurses touch many lives

Published May 18. 2014 4:00AM

Patricia Rider was pleasantly surprised, and "shed a tear of joy," when she received this Mother's Day note from her romantic friend, Marvin, which was also appropriate for Nurse's Week. Rider, 68, was a nurse for 42 years, working mostly in maternity. She retired from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London in 2009, and lives in Norwich.

For a maternity nurse

If you care for one baby

Just one a day

15,000 is what you could say

42 years of time

May seem subtle

Think of those little ones

Protected from trouble

Ponder their start

Sharp as a dart

Voices singing

Like little bells ringing

No gold on Earth

Can fill this purse

You always fill this life

As a maternity nurse
