Let Ledyard vote on school and town budgets

Just a few words to Ledyard's voters before the referendum vote today. The Town Council did the right thing by making cuts in both the education and general government budgets to bring the budget down to 6 percent from the original proposal of 8 percent.

I fully expect taxpayers to vote against this budget as it is still too high. Ledyard has no choice; either find a way to support the proposed budgets or undertake cutbacks and layoffs. Surrounding towns give their citizens a choice, the voters can vote separately on their education and government budgets.

Ledyard voters should be given the same choice.
