Speedbowl to host three holiday weekend events

The Waterford Speedbowl will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with events scheduled for three straight days.

The Speedbowl kicks off its activities tonight with a special "Sho & Go at the 'Bowl" racing event that will feature a 100-foot spectator drag race and a special car cruise, which give awards for best in show and best Americian-made entry. Testing for the drag races begins at 6:30 p.m., with elimination rounds scheduled to start at 8.

Saturday will feature the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing, but the series will also be joined by the mid-week Wild 'n Wacky Wednesday racing divisions for a Super Saturday Showdown event. The All-American series will have seven feature races, plus the Legend Cars, Super X-Cars and X-Cars.

Saturday admission is $12 for adults (all children 14-under will be admitted free if accompanied by an adult), with qualifying races starting at 5 p.m.

The weekend will conclude Sunday with Memorial Day Madness, featuring a demolition derby, the annual Trailer race, an old-fashioned Enduro race for four-cylinder cars and a ski car race. Sunday's event begins at 7 p.m. (gates open at 5:30) and concludes with a firework show. Cost if $18 for adults and $6 for children 6-14.
